This course was created with the intention of encouraging an intelligent investigation of the role of women vis-a-vis the arts, across the cultures, social strata, and race, from antiquity to the present. This class analyses the historical portrayal of women as aesthetic objects, as well as an examination of their increasingly diverse associations with the arts as practitioners, investors, connoisseurs, brokers, et cetera. The visual, literary, and performing arts, including film, are explored.
